Does where your character grew up inform who they are today?
Charlotte: "That was the worst lunch."
Bob: "So bad. What kind of restaurant makes you cook your own food?" Lost in Translation
Does the very strangeness of the setting force fish out of water together, or further divide your characters?
Ripley: "Final report of the commercial starship Nostromo, third officer reporting. The other members of the crew...are dead. Cargo and ship destroyed. I should reach the frontier in about six weeks. With a little luck, the network will pick me up. This is Ripley, last survivor of the Nostromo, signing off."
Does your story dictate your location? Or does your location dictate your story? Perhaps they are one in the same...
